Council of Kings

“Times are dire, prices are high, a war is upon us. Emperor Emhyr lurks as a rabid dog, and it’s only a matter of time before he breaks loose. The feuding North now must stand united more than ever. We have to discard petty inner conflicts, forget the differences between the races and nations, and even the different gods. We will come together at the right time – at Blavicon, at The Council of Kings!“

The world needs to change and only you can do it. Enjoy the programme and get influence tokens. Use them to influence the fate of the entire North!

What is this all about, then?

Did you enjoy reading The Witcher saga? Did you explore all the nooks and crannies of your favourite games? Have you ever wanted, even for just a while, to become a part of this world and be able to decide its fate? Do you dare enter a world full of politics, mighty kings, seductive sorceresses, wandering monster slayers, racism and intrigue? Well, this con is right for you. We introduce Blavicon 2018 – The Council of Kings. This is a con with a story!

Every visitor will have a unique possibility to get involved in the political struggle of some of the most powerful and iconic kingdoms of the world of the Witcher. As a visitor, you will be affiliated with a certain country and granted the title of lower nobility or an otherwise important person. What next? The con then becomes your board.

As a citizen of your country possessing a higher social status, you are granted the privilege to take part in the council and the festivities around it. If you attend in cosplay corresponding to the country of a given ruler, your affiliation is clear; otherwise it will be decided by random at the box office. During the council, you will be able to get so-called „influence“ in the form of tokens, which you will need to enforce political decisions. Don’t worry, it’s easy – you have only 4 options:

  • Support your king
  • Use your influence to demote a foreign king
  • Be a traitor and scheme against your own king
  • Defect to a foreign country where the grass is always greener

You can get this influence in various places, usually when simply enjoying the programme of Blavicon. The more fun you have and try new things, the more influence you get. Or, as Thaler would put it: „You just gotta have fucken‘ good luck.“ The whole council has only one goal: to elect the most capable ruler who could stand the might of the South and confront Emperor Emhyr face-to-face on the battlefield. However, to find allies and support is difficult in these times.

What’s in it for me?

1 influence = 1 vote = 1 tombola ticket

On Sunday, we will draw three lucky winners who will get valuable prizes from our partners! You don’t have to present to win, so don’t worry about missing out. The more you participate in the action and the more you influence the fate of the North and South, the bigger the chance to win you’ll have. At the same time, you will be able to have a say in who should unite the North and face Emhyr.

How will the Council be incorporated in the programme?

The Council will permeate the whole event of Blavicon. You can acquire influence at both fixed and random locations. You will be confronted with the up-to-date results at all times. People will try to persuade you to come over to their side or they might try to make you their spy. The rulers themselves will speak to their peoples in an attempt to raise their influence. However, this is also a very special, important and festive happening.

Therefore, on Thursday, there will be a lavish feast for the rulers, and the subjects can take whatever’s left later on. Afterwards, the Druga band will perform in honour of all 4 rulers‘ attendance.

On Friday, there will be a ball held for the rulers‘ entertainment. Masks and the dance floor will be available for the subjects. Fun will be had not only thanks to the music and dancing, but also the gallons of wine and mead.

Saturday afternoon will see a big concert of three bands. We expect to have an idea by then about which ruler has gathered the biggest influence; however, the final result will be known on Sunday at noon.

So who are these rules attending the Council?

Percival is a Polish band which plays music inspired by Vikings and Slavic traditions. Their repertoire consists of folk songs as well as their own tracks and brings the audience to early Middle Ages, the world of our ancestors.

Above all, this is the band who was behind the recording of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt soundtrack.

A musical band of four members coming from the South Bohemian town of Tábor, playing historical music ranging from the 13th to the 16th century, i.e. Gothic and early Renaissance. They welcome you wherever there is a need for the rumbling drums, hooting horns, mighty tones of medieval bagpipes and pipes, squeaking hurdy-gurdy and vielle and the rhythmical attack of sistrum. The whole experience is enhanced by songs sung in original old, often long forgotten languages.

On a spring night, totally unexpectedly, in an absinthe-fuelled intoxication and under the cunning full moon, minstrels Lori and Derias translated the famous Priscilla’s song to Czech and recorded it for all fans of The Witcher.

Now, after their first concert, they come to the next Blavicon, this time with their own stuff dedicated to the world of The Witcher.

In their songs, the band Druga tells stories inspired by Czech legends and Slavic mythology. The name itself came from a free translation of the Old Slavonic word for “friendship”. The band uses this to express that music is about mutual sharing of human experiences and stories, whose essence does never changes, not even through the course of centuries, regardless of history or technological advances.
