One thing is certain, though – shadows gather over Skellige.“

The world must change, and only you can change it. Enjoy the programme, feast and acquire influence tokens. Use them to influence the fate of Skellige!

What is this all about?

Did you enjoy the story of The Council of Kings and do you keep deciding the fate of your favourite characters and kingdoms? If so, welcome to Skellige – an archipelago surrounded with myths and full of pirates, rough warriors, ancient magic, and legendary monsters. We bring you another con with a story – Shadows over Skellige!

While the situation between the North and the South is more and more intense and its result utterly uncertain, there is another important powerhouse outside the contient – Skellige, which can turn the tide of events significantly. But in which direction?

King Bran was ready to take a clear stand on the situation on the mainland. However, after his sudden demise, the Skellige Isles is divided and stands before an uneasy task: to choose a new ruler who can not only rally the disorganized clans back under one banner, but also convince their jarls of their new stance on the continental crisis.

However, not all the clans are strong enough to take the lead of Skellige, and there are also those which intend to pursue their own goals without getting involved in events in far-away countries. The Tordarroch clan was almost wiped out by an ice giant and subsequently driven off its island of Undvik. The Heymaey clan is too small and too concerned with religious matters to deal with earthly events. The Dimun clan is known mostly as pirates and killers who prefer plundering to politics.

The Story

The war of the North against the South is once again upon us, and it’s only a matter of time before its flames engulfs the entire continent. Northern rulers attempted to unite against the expansive might of Nilfgaard. Foltest, King of Temeria, found the resolve to take an unprecedented step and initiated extensive diplomatic negotiations with the other sovereigns in order to form a strong alliance and to face the age-long threat alongside other Northern realms. Kovir and Poviss were not interested in joint strategic efforts. Nonetheless, Foltest was quick to strike a deal with Demavend of Aedirn and Henselt of Kaedwen. However, that was not enough.

Therefore, Foltest decided to organize The Council of Kings, where he invited more potential allies, even though he suspected that the discussion with them will be far from easy. The Council was visited by Radovid, King of Redania, as the ruler of the second most powerful Northern realm. Another invitation went to Francesca Findabair, the self-proclaimed elven Queen of Dol Blathanna, because the elves posed an unpredictable force in the upcoming conflict. The last attendee was the Duchess of Toussaint, Anna Henrietta, because not even Nilfgaard was as united as one might believe at a first glance. Also, the noblewoman from Beauclair had been known to disagree with the war effort of her cousin, Emperor Emhyr var Emreis, in the long run.

However, Nilfgaard learnt about The Council and dispatched its spies, who were tasked to disrupt the diplomatic discussion, if not thwart it directly. Unfortunately for the North, they were surprisingly effective. During The Council, Radovid was poisoned with wine, and Anna Henrietta was murdered in cold blood by a hired assassin. If not for the fact that Nilfgaardian agents were discovered and eliminated and the emperor’s intention revealed, the hopes of a united North would have been in ruin. Unambiguously, Foltest became the face of the joint campaign against the South in the end, and he is now dedicated to solve the dismal situation after the Council quickly, to ward off the subsequent chaos and to prepare for the greatest challenge the Northern Kingdoms have faced so far.

The Heymaey clan is too small and too concerned with religious matters to deal with earthly events. The Dimun clan is known mostly as pirates and killers who prefer plundering to politics.

Anyway, several clans did enter the competition for the position of Skellige’s ruler.

We cannot forget about two other, mysterious Skellige factions – the powerful druids, rulers of nature magic and enforcers of balance, and the mythical berserkers and vildkaarls, who present an unpredictable party in the battle of power. It is likely that they will have a say in the development of the events on the isles, but no one know how as of yet. Only one thing is painfully certain – shadows gather over Skellige.

The Con Game

As a visitor, you have the option to be a part of one of the lesser tribes, which directly support their masters: the clans which fight for the crown of Skellige. And then? Then, the con once again becomes your gaming board. Alongside your tribal leader, so-called thane, you will fight for your favourite clan and its jarl.

The clans are established and their politics are clear. However, there are tribes still. These are players‘ groups which support a specific clan. Tribes will try to attract as many followers as possible and stregthen their clan.

During Blavicon, you will be acquiring gaming tokens, so-called „influence“. One influence token means one vote. You will give these to your favourite clan or to your thane if you’re in a tribe. Your thane will deliver the gathered tokens to your clan. Whether you want to be a part of a bigger group through a tribe, or be a lone wolf, is entirely up to you.

You will gain influence by enjoying the programme or through random events during Blavicon. Note that you’re on Skellige now, though, so you will be able to get influence tokens through another, quite easy way as old as humankind – using alcohol! Drink to your clan, your tribe and Skellige’s legendary heroes to get more influence tokens! Each alcoholic beverage will get you one token.

The goal of the royal election is clear: to choose the king of Skellige who will take a stand in the upcoming war. What’s in it for you, though? By enjoying the programme, you will get not only influence tokens, but also raffle tickets.

On Sunday, we will draw several lucky winners who will get valuable prizes from our partners! You don’t have to be there in person, so you will not miss out on your winnings. So, trying more things and enjoying the programme more will make your chances of winning higher. At the same time, you will be able to influence the stance Skellige will take in the upcoming war.

How is the royal election going to be integrated in the programme?
The election will permeate the whole Blavicon. At both stable and random locations, you will have a chance to gain influence. You will be constantly aware of the current score. People will be trying to persuade you to support another clan or to recruit you to their tribe. The jarls of the clans who are competing for the crown will be addressing their clans and tribes to try and increase their influence.

On Thursday, there will be a wake to commemorate King Bran.

On Friday, there will be the Méan Earraigh festival, where druids collect sacred herbs and merrily celebrate the time of spring boom and the cycle of life. The merriment will be accompanied not only by music and dancing, but also litres of wine and mead. Many pairs of shoes should be worned down by dancing.

The highlight of Saturday afternoon and evening will be a great, three-band concert. We expect to know by then which clan gathered the biggest influence and won the crown of Skellige. On this day, the new king of all the isles will be crowned!

Should you be too tired from all the mead and wine, should you miss the announcement or just be unable to get your head around the story, we will recap everything on Sunday. At the same time, the new king will address their people and tell them which stand Skellige is going to take in the upcoming war!

The Clans

Klan an Craite
Clan an Craite is one of the strongest clans on the isles and a resolute ally of the Northern Kingdoms, with whom they share a long history, friendship with several significant figures, and hatred towards the tyrannical Nilfgaard. If a war between the North and the South erupts, this clan will definitely join King Foltest and other northern rulers. Jarl Crach an Craite is wise, honest and sensible man as well as a skilled and adept warrior. As Bran’s governor and the ruler of the northern part of the island of Ard Skellig, he’s busy with keeping the disarrayed clans in check. However, his children – fierce and brave Hjalmar and equally valiant, albiet more restrained Cerys – will surely raise their claim to the position of Skellige’s ruler. It is more than likely, though, that both will do it in their own way.

Klan Tuirseach
Clan Tuirseach, residing on An Skellig, is pretty much the exact opposite of clan an Craite. It has given Skellige two kings at least, so no one can deny its experience with ruling. However, its attitude to the situation on the mainland cannot be more different. Its main representative – domineering and unyielding Birna, King Bran’s widow – and their syn Svanrige, who is yet to surpass his parents, believe that Skellige should join Nilfgaard’s side, because they very much prefer its workings, philosophy and usage of power to those of the North which they consider undisciplined.

Klan Brokvar
Clan Brokvar from Svorlag is lead by the broody and reclusive jarl Udalryk, and his personality is naturally reflected in his attitude to the continental crisis. He is the only Skellige jarl who believes that not everything can be solved with an axe in hand and that sometimes it’s necessary to approach earthly matters in a sober and level-headed way. Perceptive Udalryk notices that Skellige is torn apart by inner problems and that there are dark shadows gathering over the isles. Sinister mythical forces are gaining strength, and it is possible that they are summoned by someone on Skellige. Despite the situation on the continent, he thinks it is necessary to bring the attention inwards and banish harmful influence threatening the stability of the country before it’s too late. When it comes to international politics, clan Brokvar therefore proclaims neutrality and focuses on fixing the Skellige crisis and reuniting the isles.

Klan Drummond
Clan Drummond from the southern part of the island of Ard Skellig also claims that Skellige should not directly interfere in the war of North against South, but under different motives entirely. Its jarl – calculating and ruthless Lugos the Mad – would prefer to wait until the feuding continental powers solve their problems by themselves, hopefully exhausting one another in the process. After that, it would be the time for Skellige armies to invade the mainland, crush the survivors in battle, and pillage all worthy loot. His son, the shy Blueboy Lugos, is likely to disagree with many of his father’s opinions, but only time will tell if he can get his own way.

Percival is a Polish band which plays music inspired by Vikings and Slavic traditions. Their repertoire consists of folk songs as well as their own tracks and brings the audience to early Middle Ages, to the world of our ancestors.

A musical band of four members coming from the South Bohemian town of Tábor, playing historical music ranging from the 13th to the 16th century, i.e. Gothic and early Renaissance. They welcome you wherever there is a need for the rumbling drums, hooting horns, mighty tones of medieval bagpipes and pipes, squeaking hurdy-gurdy and vielle and the rhythmical attack of sistrum. The whole experience is enhanced by songs sung in original old, often long forgotten languages.

In their songs, the band Druga tells stories inspired by Czech legends and Slavic mythology. The name itself came from a free translation of the Old Slavonic word for “friendship”. The band uses this to express that music is about mutual sharing of human experiences and stories, whose essence does never changes, not even through the course of centuries, regardless of history or technological advances.
